DB2 LUW to Microsoft SQL Server, Germany

We performed the project for the local administration of a town in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany.

Challenge

They needed to transfer their critical data from DB2 LUW to Microsoft SQL Server. 27 GB of data, contained in 300 tables, had to be moved to the new database management system.

The goal of this project was to achieve an automated migration of data, freeing up human resources of both the client’s and Ispirer’s sides from manual tedious tasks.

Solution

To reach the highest level of automation by the Ispirer Toolkit, our developers introduced some minor extensions and new conversion rules into it, according to the specification provided from the client. Following successful testing process, the customized software ready to perform the migration was delivered to the client. No additional extension requests were required, since the migration went smoothly.

Results & Advantages

Customization of the toolkit ensured a correct result in the shortest terms. The client’s data was transferred to SQL Server in several weeks. Engaging Ispirer Toolkit to ensure an automated database migration was obviously a beneficial solution as it was much less expensive than manual conversion and resolved the time issue.
