Challenge
The company was looking for a solution to convert the business application from Informix 4GL to .NET platform. It was using a 4GL application containing more than one hundred forms and reports, and an Informix database containing more than three hundred tables and stored procedures. Application to be migrated was used for day-to-day operations as well as for strategic decision-making with respect to improvement in the company's services.
Solution
Ispirer applied its well established process to manage the entire migration project, right from assessment and analysis to development and quality assurance procedures. The Ispirer migration tool made it possible to minimize conversion cost and risks. Automated conversion of data, database structure, stored procedures, and triggers was performed using Ispirer Toolkit. The tool also converted UI forms and controls, business logic, and reports. The migration process contained several stages. The tool converted SQL procedures from Informix to Transact-SQL procedures in SQL Server. The Informix 4GL user interface and business logic code were converted to an equivalent code in C# .NET. Built-in Informix 4Gl Reports were automatically converted to SQL Server Reporting Services RDL files and XML files containing report definitions.
Results and Advantages
Specific customizations of our tool allowed us to meet all requirements of the customer for software coding guidelines and utilization of specific .NET applications.
