Challenge
To execute this project, a solution to convert the client's business application from Visual Basic 3.0 to VB.NET was needed. The application was basically used to maintain personnel and payroll data of the ship's crew. It was a large Visual Basic application containing more than three hundred forms and a Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere database with more than two thousand tables and stored procedures.
Solution
Ispirer’s technical team deployed industry-best practices to assess, implement, deploy, and test the migration project. Ispirer SQLWays software was applied to convert data, database structure, stored procedures, triggers, UI forms and controls, as well as business logic. Watcom-SQL stored procedures and triggers were converted from Sybase to Transact-SQL procedures in SQLServer 2005. Visual Basic form definitions and event handlers (.frm files) were migrated to the equivalent VB.NET code compatible with Visual Studio Designer.
Results and Advantages
The customization of SQLWays made it possible to meet customer's requirements for third-party user interface components.
