Objective
Having tested open-source solutions for database migration, the company approached Ispirer for migrating Oracle with a minimum timeline.
Challenge
The client operated a large-scale database with over 1.5 million lines of code. Given the sheer volume, manual migration was not feasible, as it would have required excessive time and resources. The company had strict deadlines and needed to ensure minimal disruption to its business operations. The challenges they faced were complex and required a sophisticated solution:
- An ample downtime for migration could disrupt business operations.
- Unique-specific codebase made migrating the Oracle database with free, open-source solutions impossible.
These challenges required a more advanced, automated migration approach that could handle the database's complex requirements, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption to the client's business.
Solution
Demo version stage
Considering that our client is a huge fintech company, they needed to ensure that our product is a go-to solution that provides the best conversion speed and see it in action. That is why the Ipsirer experts conducted a session to demonstrate the conversion capabilities of the Ispirer Toolkit.
Decision-making stage
Worldline's most important criterion for a potential migration solution was time. Completing the migration project within the shortest possible time was essential, so automation was the best solution for them.
Assessment stage
At Ispirer, the assessment stage is also automated. Assessment Wizard is our free proprietary tool for automated analysis of the initial database system. It collects information about the database and creates a comprehensive report detailing the project.
In the case of Worldline, Assessment Wizard initially showed an 86% automation rate of the configured Ispirer Toolkit, so customization proved to be an optimal solution.
Customization stage
As it has already been said, the highest priority for Wordline was the maximum migration speed. To ensure the highest automation rate and efficiency, Ispirer Toolkit can be customized to meet each customer's requirements. This flexibility allows the tool to handle unique business logic, which ensures a hassle-free transition. Here's how it works:
For the customer project, the Ispirer experts provided ten customizations of Ispirer Toolkit. The biggest customizations consist of:
- Conversion of partitioned tables with subpartitions.
- Converting query requests to access variables and other package objects from other objects.
- Conversion of a custom schema in dynamic queries.
Due to the extensive customization of Ispirer Toolkit, the automation rate has increased to 99%.
