Challenge
The challenge was to execute a massive application conversion project from PowerBuilder to С#. The total size of the objects to be migrated within this project was quite remarkable.
Solution
Ispirer executes application conversion projects according to a special comprehensive engagement model. The modus operandi and interaction with the client involves certain stages. We usually start from the assessment, estimation, and the proof-of-concept (PoC) phase.
The PoC intended to demonstrate the feasibility of the client’s project. After detailed testing, the steps for project performance were scheduled in the proper order. The client gave Ispirer a part of the application code to be converted.
Our technicians configured our migration tool SQLWays such that it included all specific rules necessary to handle the client’s needs. The migration of UI logic to WPF technology was added to the software. As a result, our tool was able to handle the migration of the application with aplomb. A conversion of more than twenty five thousand lines of code was performed. The conversion results were then fully tested in a short period of time. The client received the part of the application that was successfully converted to С#.
Results and Advantages
We completed the PoC stage and proved that the migration could be performed within an appropriate timeline. Our technical specialists demonstrated that any further customization could be introduced into the tool effectively.
The client’s team completed its testing of the converted part of the application and acknowledged successful completion of the task. Impressed by the experience during the PoC phase, the client decided to proceed for production release in cooperation with Ispirer.
