Intelligent, Custom and Highly Automated Cross Platform Database and Application Migration

Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle Migration, Belgium

Customer

Our client was one of the world’s leading retailers with over 10 thousand stores in more than thirty countries. The company serves around 10 million customers daily worldwide by offering them a wide range of products and services at fair prices. It operates in three major markets: Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Ispirer’s involvement was with the client’s department in Belgium.

Challenge

In 2013, the customer contacted Ispirer, asking for additional information about the automated tool SQLWays, its functionality, and price range. Migration automation level was among the customer’s main concerns. The customer wanted to ensure that there wouldn’t be any need to migrate its complicated stored procedures manually. Another concern was the possibility of multiple migrations of the same database before the production stage, which is actually possible in our tool. The main license limitation pertains to project size and duration, not the number of times the same code is migrated. In a nutshell, the customer’s project involved migration of about thirty thousand lines of code in stored procedures, triggers, and views. In addition to these requirements, there was limited time in hand as the customer wanted to execute the project within a month.

Solution

The client decided to buy a one-month SQLWays professional license without support and tool customizations included, as they were confident about the high automation level of the software that SQLWays demonstrated during the testing and decision-making period.

Results & Advantages

Using the current SQLWays version, the customer was able to finish the migration task on time and without any additional support from our side. The results once again proved the utility of SQLWays as a highly automated tool for migration of Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL code to Oracle PL/SQL code.
